WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on an individual’s general health.
Chiropractors practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills including a combination of orthopedic, neurological and radio-diagnostic techniques to fully assess a patients condition. Doctors of Chiropractic are also trained to recommend and administer therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, physical therapy modalities as well as to provide nutritional, workplace-ergonomic and lifestyle counseling.
Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, and it is often perceived that chiropractors solely treat back and neck pain. Chiropractors are largely called on to deal with more significant issues including headaches, complex chronic pain conditions, rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis, vertigo, colic and more. Chiropractic focuses on looking at the human body in a wholistic way. Our brains control our bodies through its connections with the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves that control our mucles, tissues and organs. When this system is being impeded upon (by injury and inflammation, joint restriction, muscle asymmetry or poor posture putting pressure on nerves) the overall performance of the human body suffers. The body is self-sustaining and has the ability to heal itself under the proper conditions.
